pilot preschool program
parents are given a chance to go to pre-school too
In the village of Tuixoquel most adults have had no formal education, the native language is Mam, and the school curriculum is in Spanish. To help children approaching grade school age, a preschool pilot project was supported by CEF and started in January 2008. Parents were invited into the classroom and participated along with their young children in many group activities; learning the Spanish words for common objects, numbers, colours and names. Bringing the parents into the class has also given them the opportunity to participate in their children's learning and development. The program was such a success, CEF renewed the program for 2009 and fourteen children between the ages of four to six are attending class 5 days a week.
