Adopting a village

integrated approach assist children to access formal education

India has the second highest population in the World and half of the children under the age of five suffer from malnutrition.  Rural communities see the largest number of children drop out of school due to the lack of educational support and the need for children to work.

Free The Children is working in several communities in the district of Udaipur to implement their holistic sustainable development program, Adopt a Village.  Compassionate Eye Foundation supports Free the Children in the community of Lai which is located in northern Udaipur.  Together we have helped build a school more centrally located in Lai.  Enrollment has more than doubled and girls are being encouraged to participate more openly in the classroom.

Alternative income programs have been empowering women and are important for the growth of the community.  There are plans to develop a garden, and set up a water storage tank and a hand pump on the school grounds.
