CEF Summer Solstice Shoots and Getty Images
Compassionate Eye Foundation (CEF) was founded on the concept of creative people giving back to the community.
Over the years our business model has been tweaked and fine tuned to produce highly saleable imagery. The proceeds from the imagery create resources for projects in developing countries.
In 2005, CEF founder Robert Kent, a contributing photographer to Getty Images, approached the company about setting up a stock contract for the Foundation. Getty Images Photographer Relations assisted in this effort and in June 2006, on the Summer Solstice, Robert brought together a group of photographers, who all did shoots on that day. His Getty images art director advised on the shoots. All of the photographers involved donated their copyright to the Foundation's new stock contract. In early 2007 the first images began generating royalties for CEF on the gettyimages.com site.
Getty Images is excited about the idea of photographers and CEF using Getty Images' normal business model as a way to generate revenue for the non profit. Getty Images is also helping CEF expand their impact by involving other Getty Images Photographers and staff in the project.
Our common goal is to expand the number and range of images, earning more royalties for CEF. Getty Images is also working with CEF to raise the profile of their effort to media and customers. As well Getty Images donates an additional share of the company's revenue from each licensed image.
On or around June 21st, photographers around the world will gather to produce stock photography shoots and donate the copyright to Compassionate Eye Foundation.
Our concept is a cultural shift and a change in the way we view intellectual property rights. CEF is about artists and agents collaborating for a better cause.
The phrase, "The power of imagery to create positive change in the world" summarizes our partnership with Getty Images.
